Xomonnoy Dibox

The Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust was founded in 2001 by Dr. Bhupen Hazarika himself when he was alive. He passed away in 2011. From the next year onwards, the trust has been celebrating his birthday (8 September) as Xomonnoy Dibox (Harmony Day) in different parts of the country.

Xomonnoy Dibox 2012 - Sadiya

The first Xomonnoy Dibox was held in Sadiya, the birthplace of Dr.Bhupen Hazarika. It was celebrated with cooperation of the district administration and civil society. The celebrations were held for two days from 8th September 2012 commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika . The event was a total success with participation of people from all over the state and various ethnic groups. Central Ministers, Shri Jayram Ramesh and Shri Paban Singh Ghatowar, along with Shri Pradyut Bordoloi, then minister of Govt of Assam graced the occasion with their presence.

Xomonnoy Dibox 2013 - Lakhimpur

In 2013 the state-level birth anniversary of the maestro was celebrated at Lakhimpur. The people of Lakhimpur organizing by putting up the catch phrase, “Let’s prove how much we love Bhupen da”. They were, indeed, fully successful in proving their love and devotion. The celebrations, spread over 7th & 8th September, 2013, were a grand success with total participation of the people of Lakhimpur. Renowned singer, Smt. Usha Mangeshkar, along with some family members , participated in the celebrations. A few close associates from Kolkata like Smt. Dolly Ghosh, Shri. Mintu Mukharjee, Shri Tapan Dey, Smt. Monna Benarjee, who had accompanied Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on stage, reached Lakhimpur to participate in his Birth Anniversary celebrations and to join us in spreading his message of ‘Xomonnoy’, harmony.

Xomonnoy Dibox 2014 - Sonapur

In 2014, Xomonnoy Dibox was celebrated at Sonapur in the District of Kamrup Metro. Sonapur College, shares a very intimate relationship with ‘Xudha Kontho’, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, who had contributed immensely in its formation and growth. The faculty of this premier educational institute formed an Organising Committee with participation from all the socio-cultural associations and local committees of national organizations. The Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust, along with the Organising Committee organized and conducted the event.
